Fears monarchy could be ditched by independent Scotland with Queen forced to send Australian-style Royal representative instead . Daily Mail

The Queen - inspecting the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders at the gates to Balmoral earlier this month - may have divided loyalties if Scotland voted for independence

Experts fear independence could throw up divided loyalties for the Queen

Solution could be to appoint representative to act in the Sovereign's name

Claims Scotland may eventually ditch Royal family and becoming a republic

Comes amid growing support for independence ahead of September 18 vote

Support for independence up to 43% with 57% backing the Union

The Queen may be forced to appoint an Australian-style ‘governor general’ to rule in her name in Scotland if the country votes for independence next month, it has been claimed.

Constitutional experts fear independence could throw up divided loyalties for the Queen if there was a clash between Scotland and the rump-UK in the future.

One solution would be to appoint a ‘governor general’ in Edinburgh to act in the Queen’s name. This could lead Scotland to eventually ditching the Royal family and becoming a republic within the European Union, claim experts.

The claim comes as a new poll shows rising support for independence with just a month to go before the referendum on September 18.

A YouGov poll for the Times puts support for independence at 43 per cent, with 57 per cent backing the Union, once undecided voters are taken out.
Earlier this month just 39 per cent said they were preparing to vote Yes - with 61 per cent for No.

Scottish Nationalist leader Alex Salmond has insisted that the Queen will remain head of state in an independent Scotland.

But his party is split on the issue. The SNP’s John Mason yesterday called for a referendum to replace the Queen as head of state in Scotland.

He said: ‘The present queen is very popular, but the mood of society may change when she leaves the throne.’

Scotland Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill has also raised the prospect this year of a referendum on the Royals. He said it was ‘for the people of Scotland to decide’ on the Queen’s role.

Heir Ambulance: Prince William to take job as 999 helicopter pilot on £40,000-a-year and will give it all to charity Daily Mail

Commander: William will be flying the East Anglian Air Ambulance for at least two years from the spring, responding to urgent 999 calls

Prince William will start new job in East Anglia next year after six months of training
·        He is the first senior royal to sign a job contract and pay income tax and NI
·        William will work shifts starting at 7am and 4.30pm in 999 call out team

·        He will be responding to major car crashes and medical emergencies         Cambridges will be spending more time at Anmer Hall in Sandringham .   New job means he will not be a 'frontline' royal until at least the age of 35

Prince William will next month begin training for a new job as an air ambulance pilot, Kensington Palace formally confirmed today.

The future king will fly emergency helicopters for the East Anglian Air Ambulance for at least two years from next spring following a six month conversion course.

In the background: William's decision to keep flying means he will not become a frontline royal until at least the age of 35

In doing so he will be the first direct heir to the throne to become an ordinary PAYE company employee, it can be revealed.

A spokesman for William – who quit his previous role as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot last September - described his new role as a ‘one of the finest forms of public service’.

‘He is hugely motivated by the idea of being able to help people in difficult and challenging situations. The air ambulance service does truly outstanding work and the Duke of Cambridge wants to make his own contribution to it,’ he said.

But William’s decision to once again put off full-time public duties in favour of a new role – one to which he has committed for more than two and a half years - means that he will not become a frontline royal until at least the age of 35.

With the Queen and Prince Philip aged 88 and 93 respectively, some royal-watchers believe there is a pressing need for William and Kate to step up to the plate and shoulder their fair share of royal engagements.

Clegg in royal row after saying Prince Charles living a 'nightmare' waiting to be King, Daily Express

The Deputy Prime Minister found himself in hot water after commenting on the debate about whether the Queen should abdicate the throne.
The Queen, 88, will become Britain's longest serving monarch next year when she overtakes Queen Victoria's reign of 63 years and seven months.
Prince Charles has been heir to the throne for 62 years.
Clegg was overheard stepping into the debate by saying: "I've always quite liked him [Charles] actually. It must be a nightmare just being in this ante-room for decades."
His comments caused backlash among Tories who believe ministers should not comment on royal affairs.
Stuart Andrew, MP for Pudsey in West Yorkshire, told the Mail on Sunday: "Given that next year the Queen will become our longest-serving monarch, Nick Clegg's remarks are as untimely as they are disrespectful.
