How to Make Your Wife Happy With You, from All Pro Dad.

The below suggestions come from the book Educating The Whole Hearted Childhttp://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=familyfirst02-20&l=as2&o=1&a=1932012958 by Clay and Sally Clarkson, and we think their right on!

All Pro Dads, you know your wife is happy when you…

·         Initiate and lead regular planning times with your wife, without the children (and you plan the baby-sitter!).
·         Take the kids regularly for several hours on planned, meaningful outings…i.e., take them away (see below). Taking them to the Chick-fil-A Playground while you have coffee and read the paper does not qualify as an outing. Your wife wants to know that the time will be more than just babysitting.
·         Assist with the "Uppers" whenever possible, and be sensitive to the "Downers."
·         Defend and protect your wife's time boxes against time consumers (people, distractions, children, calls, etc.).
·          Plan in time boxes to be with your children during the day and the week, especially when it gives your wife free time, or when it makes her tasks easier (such as while she is preparing dinner).
·         Budget in your heart and mind (and checkbook) for paid household help, if you are able, especially when your children are young. Anyhelp goes a long way.
·         prepare an arsenal of ideas that you can do with the children on a moment's notice (see below).
·         are sensitive to the end of the day stress level, planning ahead to take control of the kids at the end of the day even when you are tired.

Do-Dads:

Activities Dad can do with the kids to give Mom time alone.

Big Times (outings):

·         Take them to the park.
·         Take them to a nature center.
·         Take them to a lake or beach area.
·         Take them to a museum.
·         Ride bikes in the country with them.
·         Take them on a mini field trip.
·         Go on a hike with them.
·         Go swimming with them.
·         Take them to the library reading time.
·         Play tennis with them.
·         Take them to special events.
·         Take them to seasonal festivals.

Little Times (innings):

·         Read books to them.
·         Play a game with them.
·         Throw a ball or shoot baskets with them.
·         Take a walk around the block with them.
·         Teach them something.
·         Clean up the yard together.
·         Make a tent with them.
·         Build something with them.
·         Give them "driving" lessons.
·         Play table tennis with them.
·         Overhaul bicycles (clean, tighten, etc.) together.

Dad-Dates

Every child needs individual time with Dad. Plan regular times to take each child on a "date" to be together and talk about life.

·         Go out for breakfast, child's choice of restaurant, even if it's the donut shop. Go as early as possible to make it more special.
·         Go to a favorite park, playground, or outdoor area. Take a picnic meal or snack. Play and talk.
·         With sons, plan an overnight campout. With daughters, plan a dress up night out for dinner.
·         Take them for a special shopping trip.

Some thoughts for Today, Perseverance and Faith

2 Thessalonians 1

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Thanksgiving for Faith and Perseverance

1 Paul and Silvanus and Timothy,

To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: 2 Grace to you and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brethren, as is only fitting, because your faith is greatly enlarged, and the love of each one of you toward one another grows ever greater; 4 therefore, we ourselves speak proudly of you among the churches of God for your [a]perseverance and faith in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure.

5 This is a plain indication of God’s righteous judgment so that you will be considered worthy of the kingdom of God, for which indeed you are suffering. 6 [b]For after all it is only just [c]for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted [d]and to us as well [e]when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with [f]His mighty angels in flaming fire,

8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,

10 when He comes to be glorified [g]in His [h]saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed—for our testimony to you was believed. 11 To this end also we pray for you always, that our God will [i]count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire for goodness and the work of faith with power, 12 so that the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Thessalonians 1
V 1–2: THESSALONIANS Paul, along with Sylvanus and Timothy, again writes to the church of the Thessalonians. He uses an identical greeting to the one in the first letter

V 3: THANKSGIVING Paul again thanks God for them because of their growing faith and love which abounds towards each person in the church.

V 4–7: TRIBULATIONS The growth of their faith and love is in the context of the tribulations that they are enduring along with persecution. This is producing patience in them that causes Paul to hold them up as an example to other churches, and he reminds them that God will repay those who are troubling them at Christ’s second coming.

V 8–10: THEN This takes Paul on to his focus on the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. This will be a day of vengeance for those who do not obey His gospel and who will be punished with ‘everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord’. ‘On that day’, He will come to be ‘glorified in His saints’.

V 11–12: THEREFORE This causes Paul and his party to pray for the Thessalonian church, that they will glorify God and the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and receive divine grace.

Sunday's no longer a day of rest from parking fines: Wardens target 'churchgoers and choristers' as tickets increase 13% in just five months, Daily Mail

  • Motorists are being handed nearly 900,000 parking fines a month
  • Tickets issued on Sundays have increased by 13 per cent
  • The AA says some traffic wardens 'target churchgoers and choristers'
The number of parking tickets issued on a Sunday has rocketed after scores of councils introduced seven-day patrols.
Figures show motorists are being stung by almost 900,000 parking fines a month at a cost of £30million – a 4 per cent rise on the previous year.
And tickets issued on Sundays have increased by 13 per cent – with nearly 300,000 tickets issued on that day of the week in the first five months of 2013.

It is believed the rise of Sunday shopping has prompted more town halls to crack down on parking on a day when rules were traditionally relaxed.
And the AA says some traffic wardens had even ‘targeted churchgoers and choristers’.
The figures were revealed by LV= car insurance in a series of freedom of information requests.

The company said: ‘While there has been  a general increase across all council areas, there has been  a significant spike in the number of tickets being issued on Sundays.’

Westminster Council in London has given out the largest number of Sunday parking tickets so far this year at 16,464, followed by the London borough of Lambeth (6,590), Birmingham City Council (3,909), the London borough of Bexley (3,786) and Bristol (1,686).
Councils across the UK now hand out an average of 162 parking tickets a day, compared to 154 in 2012, according to the LV= report.
But drivers suffer a postcode lottery when it comes to rules on Sunday parking.
John O’Roarke, managing  director of LV=, said: ‘Parking on a Sunday is becoming increasingly difficult and it’s easy to get caught out if you don’t know the local rules.’
AA president Edmund King said it was ‘as if nothing is sacred’, adding: ‘It’s mean-spirited to fine people on a Sunday.
‘The traditional day of rest – when even motorists deserve a bit of relief – is being eroded  in favour of revenue raising. Money destined for the collection plate is instead flowing into council coffers.’

World's top climate scientists told to 'cover up' the fact that the Earth's temperature hasn't risen for the last 15 years, Daily Mail

  • Leaked United Nations report reveals the world's temperature hasn't risen for the last 15 years
  • Politicians have raised concerns about the final draft
  • Fears that the findings will encourage deniers of man-made climate change

Scientists working on the most authoritative study on climate change were urged to cover up the fact that the world’s temperature hasn’t risen for the last 15 years, it is claimed.
A leaked copy of a United Nations report, compiled by hundreds of scientists, shows politicians in Belgium, Germany, Hungary and the United States raised concerns about the final draft.
Published next week, it is expected to address the fact that 1998 was the hottest year on record and world temperatures have not yet exceeded it, which scientists have so far struggled to explain.
The report is the result of six years’ work by UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is seen as the world authority on the extent of climate change and what is causing it – on which governments including Britain’s base their green policies.
Concerns: Scientists have been urged to cover up the fact that the Earth's temperature hasn't risen for the last 15 years amid fears it would provide ammunition for deniers of man-made climate change

But leaked documents seen by the Associated Press, yesterday revealed deep concerns among politicians about a lack of global warming over the past few years.
Germany called for the references to the slowdown in warming to be deleted, saying looking at a time span of just 10 or 15 years was ‘misleading’ and they should focus on decades or centuries.

Hungary worried the report would provide ammunition for deniers of man-made climate change.
Belgium objected to using 1998 as a starting year for statistics, as it was exceptionally warm and makes the graph look flat - and suggested using 1999 or 2000 instead to give a more upward-pointing curve.

The United States delegation even weighed in, urging the authors of the report to explain away the lack of warming using the ‘leading hypothesis’ among scientists that the lower warming is down to more heat being absorbed by the ocean – which has got hotter.
The last IPCC ‘assessment report’ was published in 2007 and has been the subject of huge controversy after it had to correct the embarrassing claim that the Himalayas would melt by 2035.
It was then engulfed in the ‘Climategate’ scandal surrounding leaked emails allegedly showing scientists involved in it trying to manipulate their data to make it look more convincing – although several inquiries found no wrongdoing.
The latest report, which runs to 2,000 pages, will be shown to representatives from all 195 governments next week at a meeting in Stockholm, who can discuss alterations they want to make.
But since it was issued to governments in June, they have raised hundreds of objections about the 20-page summary for policymakers, which sums up the findings of the scientists.
What it says will inform renewable energy policies and how much consumers and businesses will pay for them.
The report is expected to say the rate of warming between 1998 and 2012 was about half of the average rate since 1951 – and put this down to natural variations such as the El Nino and La Nina ocean cycles and the cooling effects of volcanoes.

A German climate scientist - Stefan Rahmstorf, who reviewed the chapter on sea levels - yesterday admitted it was possible the report’s authors were feeling under pressure to address the slowdown in warming due to the ‘public debate’ around the issue.
The draft report, which is not new research but a synthesis of all the work being done by scientists around the world, is likely to be highly disputed at the three-day meeting.
It will make the case that humans are causing global warming with carbon emissions even more strongly upgrading it from ‘very likely’ in 2007 to ‘extremely likely’ it is manmade.
But scientists are under pressure to explain why the warming has not exceeded 1998 levels although the decade 2000-2010 was the hottest on record.
Alden Meyer, of the Union of Concerned Scientists based in Washington, said yesterday: ‘I think to not address it would be a problem because then you basically have the denialists saying: ‘Look the IPCC is silent on this issue.’
Jonathan Lynn, a spokesman for the IPCC said yesterday: ‘This is the culmination of four years’ work by hundreds of scientists, where governments get a chance to ensure the summary for policymakers is clear and concise in a dialogue with the scientists who wrote it, and have the opportunity to raise any topics they think should be highlighted.’

Christians put B&B up for sale after death threats, from The Christian Institute

Thu, 19 Sep 2013
Christians who suffered death threats and vandalism after being sued by a gay couple have put their B&B up for sale.

Hazelmary Bull speaking in 2011

Peter and Hazelmary Bull spent winter “shivering” and sometimes going “hungry” because of the crushing impact of equality laws.
The Bulls will only allow married couples to share a double bed at their guesthouse near Penzance in Cornwall because of their Christian beliefs.
Their policy, which applies to heterosexuals and homosexuals alike, has been in place since the business opened, and is well adverstised.

Sued

But as soon as new gay rights laws were introduced in 2007, the Government’s tourism board for England struck the Bulls’ B&B off their approved list.
A few years later in 2011, the Bulls were successfully sued by gay couple Martyn Hall and Steven Preddy, who won £3,600 in damages.
The UK Supreme Court will hear the Bulls’ appeal later this month in a case backed by The Christian Institute.

Threats

But in the meantime the B&B has been targeted with vandalism, wheel nuts have been removed from the Bulls’ car and recently a dead rabbit was nailed to their fence.
The B&B’s website was hacked and replaced with pornography, and the couple have received death threats.
The decision to sell the property – which is also their home – was not taken suddenly, Mrs Bull said.

Dread

“It was a gradual process; we just noticed more and more that we couldn’t make the mortgage repayments” she said.
“Last winter was terrible. We were actually shivering and were hungry. We are coming towards next winter and dreading it.
“In 2013, two people who worked all their lives at this have ended up cold and hungry. It’s not right.

Future

“This is like a death in the family. I never thought it would end like this. We are not facing the future with any real enthusiasm.”
The Bulls’ appeal to the UK Supreme Court, to be heard next month, is supported by The Christian Institute’s legal defence fund.
Spokesman Mike Judge said: “It’s a chilling view of equality which ends up treating a pair of honest Christians like this. I very much hope the UK Supreme Court introduces a more balanced approach.”

Family, Some Thoughts

Why the Best Leaders Are Sometimes Invisible

Why the Best Leaders Are Sometimes Invisible

There is a pervasive stereotype that leaders are the ones in the limelight, the ones on stage, the extroverts with big personalities whose faces are on the front page. Like many stereotypes, I think this one is often unfair.
Some of the best leaders I know don’t demand up-front attention, but their leadership is powerful because of the fruit it brings.
Their teams or organizations or the individuals who come in contact with them are grown and propelled forward by the vision they have and by their strength, even if their vision and strength are quiet and unassuming.
One of the reasons I think quiet leadership like this is so powerful is because the burden of responsibility is taken off one person and transferred to many.
A group of people living up to their full potential is truly more capable than a single person living up to his full potential. This is easy to admit. Which is better—one person who is living out the gospel or a group of people with unified vision and purpose, all contributing equally to the community in his or her own unique way?

What climate change? Fewer people than EVER believe the world is really warming up

What climate change? Fewer people than EVER believe the world is really warming up

A report from the UK Energy Research Centre also shows the number of those who resolutely do not believe in climate change has more than quadrupled since 2005.

The Government funded report shows 19 per cent of people are climate change disbelievers - up from just four per cent in 2005 - while nine per cent did not know.

The report comes as climate change scientists working on a landmark U.N. report on climate change are struggling to explain why global warming appears to have slowed down in the past 15 years even though greenhouse gas emissions keep rising.

Green Party leader Natalie Bennett blamed the Government for the increase in climate change doubters.

She said: "When the government is so clearly failing to act on climate change, or take seriously its obligations under the Climate Change Act, it's not surprising that the level of doubt about climate change has risen.

10 Ways the Word of Faith Movement Went Wrong

10 Ways the Word of Faith Movement Went Wrong

I have found that whenever we preach or emphasize one truth of God’s Word to the exclusion of the others, it becomes a mixture and produces both good and bad fruit. For example, this has happened with the hypergrace movement, as well as the view of hyperfaith. From an overemphasis on outward holiness, we get legalism. And we come into a form of fatalism when we emphasize God’s sovereignty at the expense of human responsibility.

Clegg’s ‘dinosaur’ jibe at gay marriage opponents

Thu, 19 Sep 2013
Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg used his conference speech to sneer at those who wanted to maintain the traditional meaning of marriage.
He said that while he was celebrating the redefinition of marriage outside the House of Lords, “dinosaurs” were on the inside voting against it.
As the vote was taking place, Mr Clegg said the right place to be was with campaigners outside Parliament clapping along to the Abba song, ‘Dancing Queen’.

Concerns

Lib Dem grandee Shirley Williams was one of those within his own party who had raised concerns about redefining marriage.
Last year Nick Clegg’s office was forced to retract a speech, issued to the media, which called opponents of gay marriage “bigots”.
Beating a hasty retreat, Nick Clegg said he never intended to make the remark and it was a drafting error by his officials.

Respect

He wrote to the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church, insisting he respects those who disagree with him over the redefinition of marriage.
But a former aide to Mr Clegg said people who want to retain traditional marriage are bigots and the Lib Dem leader should have said so.
A poll conducted in the wake of the “bigot” slur showed that most people thought it was wrong to use the word, and half thought it was a form of bullying.
At the time, Colin Hart of the Coalition for Marriage said: “Mr Clegg has badly damaged his reputation by throwing around this cheap insult.”

Some thoughts for Today, The day of the Lord

1 Thessalonians 5

New International Version - UK (NIVUK)

The day of the Lord

5 Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, 2 for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, ‘Peace and safety’, destruction will come on them suddenly, as labour pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. 5 You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

Final instructions

12 Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. 13 Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. 14 And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil.

23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.

25 Brothers and sisters, pray for us. 26 Greet all God’s people with a holy kiss. 27 I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers and sisters.

28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

The Bible Panorama

1 Thessalonians 5

V 1–3: SUDDEN SURPRISE When the world least expects Christ, and when it is said that peace and safety has come, Jesus will return ‘as a thief in the night’. This is as sure to happen as the labour of a pregnant woman will bring forth birth.

V 4–11: WAKEFUL WATCH The world is not prepared for that. Christians should be ready and waiting for the coming of the Lord. Preparation for this event involves living a sober life characterised by faith, love, assurance of salvation, comforting one another, and building one another up in the faith. Christians, whether sleeping the sleep of death or awake at Christ’s coming, rejoice that He died for them and that they will be together with Him. Salvation, not wrath, awaits them. This knowledge comforts those worried about the salvation of Christians who have died.

V 12–22: WISE WORDS Paul then exhorts the Thessalonians in different practical matters. We see in these that true spirituality is always translated into practical living, working on good relationships with others, turning from evil, rejoicing, prayer, honouring God’s Spirit, Christian discernment, and submitting to God with thankfulness for who He is and what He has done.

V 23–24: COMPLETE CONSECRATION Paul prays that God will sanctify the Christians completely in spirit, soul and body, so that they are ready for the coming of the Lord Jesus who is faithful to them.

V 25–28: GRACIOUS GREETINGS Paul’s greetings include a request for prayer, a holy kiss for them all, an instruction to read the letter to everyone, and the desire that they will know the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ with them.
